Finkbine Golf Course is the University of Iowa Department of Athletics championship golf course and is home to the Men’s and Women’s Collegiate Teams. Named for W.O. “Saddleback Ridge Golf Course opened to the public for daily-fee play in May of 2000. This links style lay-out features many wide spacious fairways, large undulating putting surfaces, and multiple tee complexes on each hole to satisfy all golfers regardless of skill level. This par 72 hole lay-out measures 6615 yards from the blue championship tees and offers some spectacular views of the surrounding area. The Saddleback Ridge practice facilities include a modern, full length driving range, complete with all natural turf hitting areas, multiple targets and irrigated landing areas. “On July 4, 1962, the first round was played at the newly constructed Twin Pines Golf Course as an 18-hole facility. In June, 1964, the switch was thrown to light the 3,012 yard back nine of Twin Pines and played the first rounds under lights until 1995, when the cost to upgrade was insurmountable. Squaw Creek Golf Course construction was started in early 1966 and opened the spring of 1968. This 18-hole championship course offers golfers a wide variety of holes. This course is very challenging for the advanced player offering length, hazards, and trees. Yet, it is still very enjoyable to play for those of average ability. The location, just outside of Marion and next to Squaw Creek Park provides the course with a beautiful setting with golfers often seeing white tail deer, fox, possum and other wildlife. Gardner is the perfect golf course for your next golf outing or family reunion! On September 8, 1999, the City Council of the City of Cedar Rapids renamed Squaw Creek Golf Course to the Donald K. Gardner Golf Course in memory of the former Parks and Public Property Commissioner. Donald K. Jones Park Golf Course opened for play in 1959 as a 9-hole facility set on the
southwest side of Cedar Rapids. This course is close to the interstate and
convenient to reach. The 9-hole facility continued until the spring of 2000, when
the course was closed for the Master Plan Renovation. Lohmann Golf Design
and The Bruce Company turned the course into an 18-hole course with 20 sand bunkers and 11 ponds. The 18-hole course was officially opened to the public May 24, 2001. It officially reopened from the historic flood of 2008 on May 22, 2009. By utilizing 10 minute tee times our average round at Jones is now at under 4 hours! Ellis Golf Course‘s first 9-hole course was opened for play in the early twenties with the back nine added in 1948-49. Ellis is one of the oldest and most challenging courses in the state. The front nine features holes with large elevated greens. The back nine is fully wooded with tight undulating holes that are quite scenic. The layout will demand every club in your bag and is a real pleasure to play. Wildlife will usually be seen on our back nine including white tail deer, fox, heron and an occasional eagle. In 2001, after a donation from an anonymous golfer, a wood sculpture of Payne Stewart was completed. The unique sculpture sits overlooking the 9th green near the clubhouse. The Bruce Company of Wisconsin Incorporated from Middleton, Wisconsin completed renovations of Ellis Park Golf Course in 2003.
